About the Artiste

Aishwarya Balasubramanian is an internationally recognized Bharatanatyam exponent with more than three decades of rigorous training and performance experience. A dedicated and the senior-most disciple of Kalaimamani Anitha Guha, she first stepped onto the dance stage at the age of four in Chennai, India, and soon emerged as one of her guru’s most promising students.

At just ten years old, Aishwarya presented her Arangetram in 1998 in the distinguished presence of Dr. Adyar Lakshmanan, Dr. Sudharani Raghupathy, and Dr. Krishnakumari Narendran. Soon after, she was awarded “Best Dancer” by the Indian Fine Arts Society in Chennai—the youngest participant in a competition typically reserved for senior-level performers aged 18 and above.

Her exceptional promise was further recognized with the prestigious National Scholarship from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), Ministry of Culture, Government of India—an honor awarded to a select few dancers across India’s 28 states. Since then, she has performed extensively at leading festivals and sabhas in India and internationally, steadily building a reputation for depth, clarity, and grace.

Now based in the United States, Aishwarya continues her artistic journey as a full-time performer and educator, guiding over 100 students through her dance school, Arpanam Academy of Bharatanatyam, in New Hampshire. Aishwarya’s approach to dance is deeply process-driven and shaped by values of patience, consistency, and passion - principles that have defined her own learning journey. She credits her guru, Anitha Guha, for instilling a spirit of openness and exploration. Rather than encouraging her to conform to rigid expectations, her training emphasized artistic inquiry and authenticity.

Today, her guiding principle is simple yet clear: to engage with her art sincerely and fully.
