Some of my fondest memories come from both ensemble rehearsals and solo practice. Dancing in a group taught me how to coexist, communicate, and grow with others - lessons in patience, presence, and perspective that no classroom ever could. Those friendships shaped me, not just as a dancer, but as a person and now, as a teacher, I try to nurture the same spirit in every Arpanam classroom.
Solo work, on the other hand, offered a different kind of intimacy - with the art, with my teacher, and with myself. In the early days, it was just me, Anitha aunty, her voice, and the nattuvangam: a one-on-one classroom where her teachings became part of my very being. Even now, when I work alone, I still hear her voice guiding me; she lives in spirit in my practice.
Beyond personal practice, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to experience the goodwill of senior gurus and artists who generously shared their time, energy, and stage. Those blessings, the guidance, and the sense of community have stayed with me, shaping not only my journey as a dancer but also my path as a mentor and teacher.
