Acharya Smt. Anitha Guha

Smt. Anitha Guha is one of Chennai’s most celebrated non-performing Bharathanatyam teachers. She began her journey under the guidance of her mother, Smt. Karthiyayini Natesan, and later honed her skills under the able tutelage of Guru Govindarajan Pillai. Brief periods of learning under Kalaimamani Radhakrishnan and Dr. Anandha Shankar Jayant further enriched her artistic prowess. Her music training is under the esteemed Smt. B. Meenakshi.
From a tender age, Anitha displayed an innate grace, elegance, and a natural talent for choreography, especially in dance dramas. With her dance group, she staged a wide array of ‘Nritya Natakams’ in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, along with several solo performances. She portrayed title roles such as Radha, Valli, Mohini, Basmasura, Shiva, Ravana ,and Urvasi with such finesse that audiences were left in awe of her performances. Her adept portrayal of Urvasi earned her the Minister’s Award in 1985.
Driven by a passion to impart knowledge to the younger generation, Anitha founded Bharathanjali in 1989. She is a pioneer in molding young children to professional standards, many of whom have blossomed into solo performers and teachers, sharing their art both in India and abroad.
Anitha Guha has also been the Curator of Ilamayil Thiramai since its inception in 2012 (The annual dance festival of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai for aspiring dancers under the age of 25).Recognized by critics and rasikas as the foremost ballet producer of her generation, Anitha has carved a unique niche for herself with numerous acclaimed mythological Nritya Natakams and thematic dance productions.
